Light In You

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese method of activating and focusing the healing energy that is already within us.  Reiki is pronounced ray-key.  Dr. Mikao Usui is credited for bringing the teachings of Reiki to the forefront in the 19th century.  It made its way to the U.S. by early 20th century.  It's popularity has grown tremendously within the last decade.  Below I'd like to share what you'd experience in a Reiki attunement and Reiki treatment.

Reiki Attunements

Level 1 of Usui Reiki - Receive attunement (activation); learn hand positions for self-treatment and treatment of others; begin practicing on yourself (traditionally 30 days straight) and begin practicing on others any time you can.

Level 2 of Usui Reiki - Receive attunement (activation); learn first three of five symbols; continue practicing on yourself and others; learn how to give distance healings.

Level 3 of Usui Reiki - Receive attunement (activation); learn last two of five symbols; continue practicing on yourself, others face-to-face, and distance healings.  At this point, you are now a Reiki Master Teacher.  This means you can teach and attune others, if you choose to do so.

*NOTE* Be sure to eat lightly the day of your attunement, drink plenty of water afterwards, and meditate before and after.  Sit in a comfortable position with hands in prayer position at your heart center. You may feel tingling on top of your head, hands, or feet and perhaps a warm or hot feeling in your hands and feet.  Even if you don't feel any of these at all, it doesn't mean the attunement didn't work.  Trust your healing energy to awaken and it will!

Reiki Treatments

When you receive a Reiki treatment expect to be deeply relaxed.  It is a wonderful feeling.  Please go into the treatment with an open mind and an open heart.  You should be dressed comfortably.  There's no need for you to be nude during the session.  The healing energy can reach you regardless of any clothing you may have on.  You can eat normally the day of a treatment.  The important thing to remember during a treatment is to be open.  Be sure to drink lots of water afterwards.  Do not be surprised if you fall asleep during the session. This is perfectly normal.  It's a beautiful and relaxing experience.  If you're not familar with the traditional hand positions, please look them up online.  You can Google 'Reiki hand positions' and something will come up for you.  In addition, understand that Reiki practitioners have their own routine when it comes to giving a treatment.  For instance, when I give a treatment, I use the traditional hand positions, but I also go where I'm guided to go on the individual as well.  Or if there is a specfic concern of the client, I will focus the majority of the session on that concern, but I still make sure I focus a bit on the seven major chakras and the aura.  Be sure that your Reiki practitioner explain to you what they're going to do before they do it. They should have good information to share with you on Reiki and be willing to share and not just jump into it if it's your first time.

Happy Healing!
